Veg Momos Recipe | Veg Momos With Momo Chutney Recipe

Momos are a popular street food in the Northern parts of India. These are also known as dimsums and are basically dumplings made out of flour with a filling inside. You can add any fillings of your choice like chicken, mutton or even veg. Today, I'll show you the recipe of Veg momos along with momo chutney recipe. INGREDIENTS:

For The Filling:

  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Garlic cloves- 6-7 nos (finely chopped)
  • Green chillies- 2 nos (finely chopped)
  • Onion- 2 nos (medium sized, finely chopped)
  • Veggies of your choice- 3 cups (here I have used Cabbage- 2 cups, Capsicum- 1 cup, sweet corn- 1 cup, Carrots- 2 nos and chopped them finely)
  • Chilli flakes- 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder- 1 tsp
  • Salt- 1 tsp
  • Soya sauce- 2 tbsp
  • Ketchup- 2 tbsp
  • Vinegar- 1 tbsp
  • Garlic powder- 1 tsp
  • Onion powder- 1 tsp
  • Chaat masala- 1 tsp

For the Dough:

  • Refined wheat flour/ Maida- 2 cups
  • Salt- to taste
  • Water- as required
  • Oil- for kneading

For the Momo Chutney:

  • Tomato- 4 nos (Medium sized)
  • Dry red chillies- 4 nos
  • Salt- to taste
  • Garlic cloves- 2-3 nos

For the Filling:

  • Heat oil in a kadhai, add chopped garlic and chopped green chillies to it.

  • Saute it and fry till the garlic turns golden.

  • Now add chopped onions to it and saute well.

  • Saute the onions until they turn pink and soft.

  • Now add the chopped veggies to it. Make sure to chop the veggies finely.

  • Add some salt to it and let it cook on high flame

  • Now add the spice powders to it and mix well

  • Now add the sauces too and mix well.

  • Check for seasoning and add more salt and spice if required. Switch off the flame and let it cool down completely.
  • Take refined flour in a bowl along with some salt. Mix well and add enough water to knead a tight tough out of it. Grease with some oil and knead it well. Cover it and let it rest for 10-15 mins.
  • Take a portion of the dough and roll it out thinly. Cut out small circles using a jar lid.

  • Place some filling on each circle. You can more filling if you prefer.

  • Now lift one side of the edge and start pleating the momos. Join all the pleats at the center. Below is an image of a pleated and shaped momo.

  • Heat water in a vessel. Place a steamer basket on it. Grease it with some oil. Place the momos on it. Make sure to not crowd them.

  • Steam the moms for 5-7 mins. An indication that they're done is that they don't feel sticky and looks translucent.

  • Tasty street style Veg momos are ready. Now let's prepare the chutney.
  • Take tomatoes and make slits on the bottom part of it. Add them to a pot of water along with dry red chillies.

  • Boil them for 5-10 mins or until they are soft.

  • Now drain them and let it cool completely.
  • Now Peel them, since the tomatoes are soft they will peel off easily. Now take them to a jar along with chillies, salt and garlic cloves. Grind them to a fine paste. Tasty momo chutney is ready.

  • Veg momos and spicy chutney is ready. Serve right away.
