Wheat Halwa with detailed picture instructions. A classic Soth-Indian halwa recipe, Whole wheat halwa. This recipe may look similar to North-Indian Atte ka halwa, but the ingredients and procedure are different, and also the texture of the halwa is chewy yet soft. This rich sweet can be served for the upcoming festive season. I'm making this recipe in the traditional way by soaking and grinding whole wheat, you can alternatively use wheat flour to make it easier. This sweet may taste rich due to the amount of ghee used, however the quantity of ghee is what gives it that texture and flavour. Try this recipe out and let me know how it turned out.
INGREDIENTS:
- Whole wheat- 1 cup
- Ghee- 1/2 cup
- Chopped dry fruits of your choice- 2 tbsp
- Sugar- 1 cup
- Food colour of your choice- a pinch
PROCEDURE:
- Take wheat in a bowl, wash it thoroughly and soak it for at-least 3-4 hrs.
- Drain the water from the wheat and grind it to a fine paste along with some water.
- Sieve the wheat paste to remove any ungrounded particles.
- Take it in a large bowl and leave it undisturbed on the kitchen counter for 5-6 hours.
- You'll notice the wheat paste settling down and a liquid is floating on it. Gently remove the liquid from the top and discard it. We'll be only using the wheat paste which has settled down.
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a pan. Simmer it once it gets hot.
- Now add the dry fruits and fry gently for a few secs.
- Now add the wheat paste, sugar and the food colour. Keep stirring continuously.
- The mixture starts to thicken immediately and keep stirring continuously to avoid burning.
- Add some ghee and keep cooking on low flame.
- Now you'll notice that the mixture has become glossy and leaves the sides of the pan.
- Now grease a plate with ghee and spread the hot halwa over it.
- Let it cool down and cut it with a greased knife and serve it right away. Enjoy it by adding dry fruits of your choice.
- There you go. Whole Wheat Halwa is ready.
