Homemade Desiccated Coconut Recipe | Toasted Coconut Recipe

Today I'll be showing you a step-by-step recipe of desiccated coconut recipe with pictures. We all love laddos and burfis, and for such recipes desiccated coconut is a must. Though this is easily available in stores, but some localities have no such shops to buy them. So, why not make it at home, easily? Follow the step-by-step recipe to know all about it.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Dry Coconut- 1 nos (I'm using dry coconut, you could even use fresh coconut).

PROCEDURE:

  • Take dry coconut and scrape off the brown part, Remove as much as possible. Wash the coconut and let it dry in a colander.
  • After it dries, cut it into small pieces.
  • Transfer it to a blender jar, blend it till it gets fine and even.
  • You can use it in your burfis or laddos at this stage. But i'll be drying it further to increase it's shelf life.
  • If you have an oven, place it in a baking tray and put it in the oven for 10-15 mins.
  • Alternatively, you can do the way I did, toasting them on a pan, simply add the grated coconut to a pan and toast it for 2-3 mins on low flame. Once it starts getting dry switch off the flame and let it cool down completely.
  • Remove it in an air-tight bottle and this stays fresh in room temperature for a month, stays upto 6 months in a refrigerator, and upto a year in the freezer.
