Chocolate Panna Cotta Recipe | Panna Cotta Recipe Without Gelatin

A creamy Italian dessert recipe made using thickened milk with any flavour of your choice. Authentically, the texture of panna cotta is achieved by using Gelatin, but I have used agar-agar instead as it is vegetarian. Panna cotta can be made in a variety of flavours like strawberry, rose, vanilla, mint, etc. For this recipe I have used chocolate flavour by adding dark chocolate compound. The recipe below yields 3-4 medium-sized panna cotta. I hope you'll like this Recipe. Make sure to try it out and do let us know how it turned out.

Ingredients:

  • Milk- 1 1/2 cups
  • Sugar- 1/2 cup (more or less according to your preference)
  • Vanilla essence- 1 tsp
  • Heavy cream- 1/2 cup
  • Pinch of salt
  • Dark chocolate compound- 1/2 cup
  • Agar agar- 2 tsp
  • Butter- 1 tbsp
  • Chopped chocolate- for garnish

Procedure:

  • Take milk in a thick- bottomed sauce pan. Allow the milk to come to a boil.
  • Now add sugar, cream, vanilla essence, salt and agar agar powder.
  • Mix well and let it dissolve.
  • Now add dark chocolate compound to it. Mix well and let it dissolve. Check for sweetness and add more sugar if needed.
  • Meanwhile, grease the bowls using butter.
  • Pour the simmering chocolate Panna Cotta milk into the greased bowls. Let it cool down completely before letting it set in the refrigerator for atleast 2-3 hrs. The panna cotta will set even in room temperature too, but tastes best when chilled.
  • Release the sides of the bowl using a blunt knife. Demould it gently into a plate of your choice. Decorate with chopped chocolate or any toppings you prefer. Your Chocolate Panna Cotta is ready.
