Urad Dal Cheela Recipe | Protein-Rich Urad dal Cheela

A quick and healthy breakfast recipe, Urad dal cheela. A healthy and nutritious breakfast which keeps you full for longer and is a great breakfast option for kids. Urad dal has excellent antioxidant properties that make it beneficial for the heart, liver and kidneys. It may also aid in weightloss (when had with a low fat diet) as it keeps you full for longer and keeps unnecessary hunger pangs at bay. I have used eggs in this recipe, for an eggless version you can substitute 2 tbsp curd with each egg. The recipe mentioned below is a single serve recipe for one person. However, you can double or even triple the recipe and make according to your requirement. Check out the step-by-step picture instructions and do try it out. Let me know in the comments section below on how it turned out.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Egg- 1 no
  • Salt- 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli flakes- 1/2 tsp
  • Maggi masala- 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves- 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal flour- 3 tbsp
  • Baking powder- a inch
  • Water- 2 tbsp
  • Oil- to cook the cheela
  • The spices used are customisable, you can add any spice you prefer. You can even add finely chopped veggies for fibre.

PROCEDURE:

  • Firstly, i want to talk about urad dal flour. You can either buy store-bought urad dal, or you can grind urad dal from a mill to a fine powder. Many recipes show the procedure of soaking the dal, grinding it and then making this. But, that is time consuming for a breakfast. That's why, you can grind urad dal and use it whenever you need.
  • Take egg in a bowl, add the spices, salt and coriander leaves to it. Add any other spice or herb you prefer at this stage.

  • Whisk well for a min.

  • Now add urad flour and baking powder to it.

  • Whisk well until it incorporates well. Add water to dilute it and make it spreadable.

  • Whisk until there are no lumps in it. Now let it rest for 2 mins.

  • Take around a tbsp of oil on a hot tawa. You can even use ghee instead.

  • Pour half of the batter over it and spread it a bit. Don't worry, this will not spread easily like a masala dosa batter. So you'll get fluffy, soft dosas. You'll get 2 medium-sized cheelas with this recipe.
  • Flip over when cooked and cook till golden on both sides.
  • Nutritious, filling and tasty urad dal cheela is ready. Serve along with any chutney or dip of your choice.
