Chicken Semiya | Chicken Vermicelli Recipe

Chicken Vermicelli also known as Chicken semiya is a delicious, easy meal recipe, a perfect breakfast option. Since It's Ramadan, I prefer having this after a simple iftar. INGREDIENTS:

For the Vermicelli:

  • Oil- 2 tbsp
  • Onion- 2 nos (sliced)
  • Mint leaves- 1/2 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste- 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
  • Carrots- 2 nos (sliced)
  • Peas- 1/2 cup
  • Salt- to taste
  • Tomato puree- made with 4 large tomatoes
  • Roasted vermicelli- 250 gms
  • Jeera powder- 1 tsp

For the chicken:

  • Chicken- 2 cups
  • Salt- to taste
  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Chicken masala- 1 tbsp
  • Ginger garlic paste- 1 tbsp
  • Vinegar- 1 tsp
  • Oil- 2 tbsp

PROCEDURE:

  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker, once the oil gets hot, add sliced onions to it and saute well. Let the onions cook till it gets translucent.

  • Now add ginger garlic paste, mint leaves and red chilli powder to it. Mix well and saute for a min.

  • Now add the chopped carrots and peas along with some salt and mix well.

  • Now add tomato puree to it and mix well.

  • Let it pressure cook for 2 whistles, allow the pressure to release naturally.
  • Meanwhile, let's prepare the chicken. Marinate chicken with the masalas listed above. Let it marinate for at-least 10-15 mins. You can either marinate the chicken breast and fry it and shred it later, or you can chop the chicken to cubes and marinate it and then fry it.
  • Heat oil in a tawa, add the marinated chicken to it, I've marinated the chicken breast and fried it. Fry the chicken for 5 mins for high flame and later lower the flame, let it cook evenly throughout.
  • Once it gets cooked evenly, remove from flame and let it cool. Shred the chicken into small pieces. Set it aside.
  • Let's check the contents of the pressure cooker, Remove it in a thick-bottomed vessel. Add 2 cups of water to it. The quantity of water depends on the thickness of the vermicelli, so adjust accordingly.
  • Allow the water to come to a rolling boil, now add the vermicelli to it and mix well. Check for seasoning and add salt and spice according to your taste.

  • Let the vermicelli cook on medium flame, keep stirring in intervals.

  • Once the vermicelli is cooked upto 80%, lower the flame and let it dum on low flame for 10 mins.
  • Once the vermicelli is cooked, add the cooked chicken to it and mix gently.

  • Chicken vermicelli is ready, Serve hot right away. Enjoy!
