Pani Puri.. an immensely popular street food which is famous worldwide, is crispy fried dough balls known as puri, which is stuffed with spicy aloo masala, or boiled chana or sprouts, along with a spicy tangy water and sweet tamarind chutney. It's a burst of flavours and textures once you have it. And trust me, you cannot stop for one. Today, I bring to you simple, easy Pani Puri recipe with aloo masala stuffing and To save time, I've used pani puri papad. They are easily available and are hygienic too. You can even make puris from scratch too. Try this recipe and let me know in the comments how it turned out.
INGREDIENTS:
For the Aloo:
- Potatoes- 4-5 nos (medium sized, boiled, peeled and mashed)
- Salt- to taste
- Red chilli flakes- 1 tsp
- Chaat masala- 1 tsp
- Pani puri masala- 1 tsp
- Dried mint leaves- 1 tsp
- Jeera powder- 1 tsp
For the Spicy pani:
- Green chillies (2 nos) + Mint leaves (1/2 cup) + Coriander leaves (1/2 cup) - Made to a fine paste
- Water- 1 cup
- Salt- to taste
- Pani puri masala- 1 tbsp
- Boondi- 1/2 cup
- Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp
- Sugar powder- 1 tsp
Other Ingredients:
- Puris
- Sweet tamarind chutney- 1/4 cup (I've used homemade chutney, I hope to share it's recipe soon)
- Sev
- Finely chopped onion
PROCEDURE:
- Take mashed potatoes in a bowl, you can even add boiled chana or sprouts at this stage, I skipped it. Add all the spices mentioned above.
- Give it a good mix, check for salt and spice and add more seasoning if required.
- Set this mixture aside, while we prepare the teeka paani.
- Take the green paste in a bowl, add some water to it. You can even add ice cubes at this stage as that'll keep it vibrant for long.
- Add all the spices and boondi and mix well.
- Set this too aside.
- Make a small hole in the puri, stuff a little aloo, some chopped onion, some sev and then drizzle some tamarind chutney over it. What next? you know it, fill it with the teekha pani, and devour it immediately. That's divine!
