Bangda Fish Fry Recipe | Mackeral Fish Fry | Pepper Masala Fish Fry

Bangda Fish also known as Mackeral fish in english, is a popular variety in the coastal parts of India. Taking the seafood series a step forward, I bring to you Bangda fish fry recipe- Bangalore style. Traditionally, this fish is slit in the middle to cut open, then the bones are removed from it and then marinated with a spicy pepper masala and shallow-fried on tawa for the perfect crisp. You might have come across recipes where people fry the whole fish, that is a thing too. But this is my Mother-in- law's recipe, she came up with it as her kids loved fish but hated to remove the pin-bones from the fish. Hence this recipe, This is our family recipe and my kids too prefer having fish this way. So, if you have kids at home, this is a must-try recipe. Mackarel fish have a distinctive taste, also they are rich in omega fatty acids, and an excellent source of Vitamin B2, B3, B6, B12 and Vitamin D. INGREDIENTS:

  • Mackeral fish (Bangda fish)- 500 gms
  • Salt- to taste
  • Ginger garlic paste- 2 tbsp
  • Black pepper powder- 2 tbsp (mmore or less according to your preference)
  • Cornflour- 2 tbsp
  • Oil- to shallow fry
  • Onion slices and lemon wedges (for serving)

PROCEDURE:

  • Take the mackeral fish and cut the head and the tail part. This step is mostly done in the markets itself, if not done then do it carefully.
  • Now, take a sharp pointy knife and slit the fish in the edge and open it flat. Now remove the pin-bones in it.
  • Even though you won't be able to remove all the pin-bones in it, Make sure that you remove as many as possible.
  • Wash and clean the internals. Wash it well and let it drain in a colander.
  • Take a large mixing bowl, add all the ingredients listed under the marinade and add the fish and mix gently.

  • Keep it in a wide plate and let it marinate for atleast 3-4 hrs.

  • Once marinated, keep a tawa on the stove for heating.
  • Add some oil over it and place the marinated fish over it.
  • Fry the fish until it gets crispy on both sides.
  • Bangda fish fry is ready
  • Serve right away along with onion rings and lemon wedges.
