A quick and healthy breakfast recipe, Rava Idli. This recipe needs no fermentation and can be made easily without any previous day preparations. This Idli is a great alternative to the usual monotonous idli which requires fermentation, and also who does'nt love a variety? INGREDIENTS:
- Urad dal- 1 cup (soaked for min.4 hrs, and grind it to a fine paste)
- Wheat rava- 1 cup
- Rice rava- 1 cup
- Curd- 1 cup
- Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
- Curry leaves- 1 sprig
- Onion- 2 nos (medium sized, finely chopped)
- Gram dal- 1 tsp (optional)
- Broken cashewnuts- 1 tbsp
- Grated carrots- 1/2 cup
- Green peas- 2 tbsp
- Avarekalu/ hyacinth beans/ ballar phalli- 2 tbsp
- Coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
- Cooking oil- 2 tbsp
- Green chillies- 1 tsp (optional)
- Eno- 1 sachet (add this if using immediately or else substitute with 1/2 tsp cooking soda)
- Salt- to taste
PROCEDURE:
- Cook green peas and ballar phalli in a pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
- Now heat a broad vessel, add oil to it and let it get hot. Add curry leaves and mustard seeds and let it crackle.
- Now add sliced onions and some salt to it and let it cook till it gets translucent.
- Now add wheat rava to it and roast it in the oil for a few minutes. Switch off the flame and let it cool down.
- Once it cools down, add to it chopped coriander leaves, urad dal paste, boiled veggies and curd. Mix well.
- Now add the rice rava and mix well, finally add eno and give a final stir.
- Adjust the consistency and add some water if the batter is thick.
- Use the batter immediately, pour it in greased idli moulds and sprinkle carrot shavings on it.
- Steam it on medium flame for 12-15 mins for soft tasty Rava idli.
