MASOOR DAL FRY (RED LENTIL STIR FRY)


 


INGREDIENTS:

*Masoor dal- 1 cup

*Onion- 1 (medium sized, roughly chopped)

*Tomatoes- 3 (large sized, roughly chopped)

*Garlic pods- 7 to 8

*Oil- 1 tsp

*Red chilli powder- 1 tsp

*Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp

*Salt- to taste

*Water- 3 cups

 

For tempering:

*Ghee- 1 tbsp

*Cumin seeds- ½ tsp

*Curry leaves- 1 sprig

*Onion- 1 (finely sliced)

 

PROCEDURE:

*Wash the dal well and drain it.

*Take a pressure cooker, add the washed dal and add all the ingredients except for the tempering ones.

*Pressure cook for 3 whistles on a high flame.

*Now lower the flame and cook for 5 more mins.

*Switch off the flame and allow the pressure to release naturally.

*Open the whistle and mash the dal coarsely with a masher.

*Now heat a pan and add ghee.

*Now add cumin seeds to the hot ghee and allow to crackle.

*Add onion slices and saute till light brown.

*Now add curry leaves and let it splutter.

*Pour the mashed dal over it.

*Cover it immediately, open the lid after 30 secs.

*Mix the dal well and adjust the consistency and check for seasoning.

*Allow it to boil.

*Tastes best with hot rice and a tsp of ghee.
